YES Learnership :Retail Readiness Programme (RRP)

The RRP stands out as a premier skills development initiative by a South African retailer. It combines practical in-store training with theoretical knowledge, equipping participants with an NQF level 3 qualification upon successful completion. Since its launch in 2016, Shoprite has invested nearly R600 million into the programme, training 38,948 youth. In the last financial year alone, 4,065 learners were trained, with 1,293 securing jobs within the Group.

Youth Employment Services (YES) Initiative

Following the RRP, participants can advance to the YES programme, a business-driven initiative in collaboration with government and labour sectors. This 12-month training programme further polishes the skills acquired in RRP. In the 2023 financial year, Shoprite invested over R91 million in YES, training and employing more than 2,000 participants.

A success story from the programme is Dewald Elrick Boer, who, after completing his BA degree from North-West University in 2022, joined the RRP and YES programmes. He started as a Store Assistant and quickly progressed to Trainee Manager at Shoprite Centre Forum in Pretoria.
