Security Officer :Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience: 6-11 months of relevant experience.
  • Certifications: Grade C security certificate and registration with PSIRa, along with a valid PSIRa certificate.
  • Skills: Computer literacy and experience with CCTV in a control room are advantageous.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act No. 53 of 1985, PSIRa Act 56 of 2001, and Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).
  • Availability: Willingness to work shifts and handle high-pressure situations.
  • Preference: Given to EPWP trainees and administrative interns as per Personnel Circular Letter 4 of 2017.
  • Health: Candidates must be prepared to undergo medical surveillance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safeguarding state assets, vehicles, employees, patients, contractors, and visitors.
  • Monitoring and controlling the movement of patients and visitors.
  • Providing escort services for staff, visitors, and patients as needed.
  • Documenting incidents and breaches in the Occurrences Book.
  • Conducting searches of people and vehicles.
  • Enforcing departmental policies.
  • Assisting nursing staff with handling aggressive patients.
  • Managing hospital security aids and monitoring CCTV surveillance cameras.
  • Responding promptly to emergencies in the hospital.
