South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) announces that approved beneficiaries of R350 SRD grants for this month will start receiving payments from Friday. Learn about the payment process, delays, and the role of a procurator

In the latest update for August 2023, beneficiaries who have been approved for the R350 SRD grants can expect their payments to be disbursed by Friday. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the commencement of payments for the R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grants.

This month, beneficiaries faced concerns regarding the delay in grant disbursements, leading to discussions on social media. While Sassa initially announced the disbursement dates of August 2, 3, and 4 for all grants, including the SRD, unexpected delays occurred.

Sassa has clarified the payment timeline, stating that from August 25 to 31, the processing of payments for approved clients will take place. Beneficiaries are advised to visit the SRD website during this period to determine the exact date their payment will be credited to their bank accounts.

Once the payment processing is complete, beneficiaries can expect the funds to appear in their accounts within two to three business days. Paseka Letsatsi, the spokesperson for Sassa, acknowledged the agency’s efforts to ensure timely payouts and mentioned the evaluation process that occurs each month to maintain eligibility.

In cases where beneficiaries face challenges in collecting their payments, Sassa suggests the appointment of a procurator. A procurator is an authorized individual who can collect the grant on behalf of the beneficiary. This allows beneficiaries who are unable to visit the local Sassa office to still receive their payments through an appointed representative.

Procurator Eligibility Criteria-R350 SRD

To be eligible to act as a procurator, individuals must meet certain criteria, including being at least 18 years old, holding permanent residency in South Africa, and possessing a valid 13-digit South African ID. The procurator must express willingness to represent the beneficiary and provide necessary documents to ensure the collected money reaches the intended recipient.

For a seamless process, both beneficiaries and appointees need to submit their identity documents and fulfill the stipulated requirements. Sassa emphasizes the importance of accurate information verification to ensure the smooth transfer of funds to the beneficiaries.

Stay updated on the R350 SRD grant payment process and ensure you receive your rightful disbursement by keeping track of the official SRD website and adhering to the guidelines provided by Sassa.
