It’s important to note that no one can force you into a residential facility without your consent. Unless, a medical report deems you unfit or the court orders admission. To apply for a residential facility, fill out an application form if you are eligible according to this criteria:

  • You are 60 years or older
  • You are a South African citizen who receives an old age pension or fund
  • You qualify for an application and subsidy

How to apply for Old Age Homes for SASSA Pensioners

During the application process, be sure to have identification documents (as proof of citizenship) and medical reports on hand. Applications can be submitted at any residential facility or nearby social development department office.

Once submitted, your application will be reviewed and either approved or rejected with written notification detailing the reason(s). In case of rejection, you have the option to object in writing to the Minister of Social Development.

If approved for Sassa’s older persons’ grant, monthly payments can be collected through various methods such as predetermined paydays at designated points or bank deposits. Alternatively, institutions like old age homes can provide doorstep collection services.
