This guide will walk you through the process of applying for SASSA online application under the new rules. There have been some changes in how the SRD R350 Grant is managed since the Coronavirus pandemic has subsided and lockdowns have been lifted. If you have not yet submitted your application, the information below should be helpful.

SASSA, the South African Social Security Agency, is still in charge of the R350 Special Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, which is set to expire in March 2023. This means that there is still plenty of time to take advantage of the grant. SASSA R350 grant reapplications are available each month for those who qualify.

To be eligible for the SRD R350 grant, you must meet the following requirements: Sassa Online Application

  • You must be a South Africa citizen, asylum seeker, holder of a special permit or refugee.
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 60 to participate.
  • You must not be receiving social grants on behalf of anyone else, and you must not be contributing to or eligible for UIF payment.
  • You should also not receive any other financial assistance.

Online SASSA application

  • Navigate to the SASSA website, srd.sassa.gov.za.
  • Go to the “How Do I Apply for This SRD Grant” section.
  • Select the option ‘click here to apply online’
  • Enter phone number and then press ‘Send SMS’ button.
  • A one-time pin (OTP) will then be sent to your cellphone.
  • Fill out the online form with this number.
  • You can then proceed with the application by filling out the remaining fields.


How to Apply for the SASSA WhatsApp Application

  • Make 082 046 8553 a contact on your phone.
  • Send a message to the new contact on WhatsApp by typing ‘hi’.
  • You will receive an automated response; type ‘help’ in response.
  • You will be given several options; respond by typing the number ‘4’.
  • Next, you will receive Sassa platform message; reply ‘SRD’ to this.
  • Confirm whether you’re applying for yourself or on someone else’s behalf.
  • You can now begin working on the application.
  • In the message, include your name, surname, and ID number.
  • The next steps will be communicated to you via Whatsapp.
  • To be considered for an SRD grant, you must give SASSA permission to verify your identification, residency, income, and social security benefits. You must accept the declaration and consent forms in order to do so.

SASSA advises you to submit only one application; submitting multiple applications on different platforms will not speed up the process.

All SRD grant applications received before the 15th of the month should be approved or rejected by SASSA. You can find out about your Sassa status online. You should also receive an SMS confirming whether you were approved or rejected.
