Job Description

Job Purpose:

Under the direct Supervision of the EOC Team Leader and EOC Manager, the Call Centre Dispatcher receives incoming emergency calls, and dispatches the nearest most appropriate ambulance to the scene. 


Key Performance Areas:
•    Promptly answers all incoming emergency, collects pertinent information from the caller, enters the required information into the CAD system
•    Studies, maintains familiarity with major streets, roads, public buildings, industrial plants, and general geographic location of cities and landmarks. 
•    Ask vital questions to interpret / interrogate, analyze and anticipate the callers’ situation to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch emergency services, provide pre arrival instructions or refer callers to other public emergency agencies. 
•    Maintains and projects a positive professional attitude with the public and other professionals within the medical field, ambulance personnel and others contacted during work.
•    Creates and maintains accurate and well-organized records for documentation and retrieval purposes.
•    Ensures all PRF’s collected and closed by end of shift
•    Maintains all details on PRF management system and ensures it proceeds to billing
•    Maintains confidentiality of all information 

Job Requirements

1.    Matric certificate or equivalent qualification.
2.    Basic Life Support (BLS) qualification or First Aid Level 3 would be advantageous
3.    Excellent telephone/radio, computer and listening skills
4.    Good speaking skills, with clear pronunciation
5.    Good judgment and communication skills with colleagues and hospital staff.
6.    Should be able to interact with people in various emotional states
7.    Ability to work efficiently under pressurized circumstances
8.    Ability to record and process information accurately using computer skills
9.    Must be able to effectively read maps and be familiar with surrounding areas
10.  Ability to work as part of a team
11.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.
12.  Computer Literate is a must with effective computer typing skills as needed for work (e.g., Data Entry, Word processing, Email, Google Earth),
13.    Ability to organize and coordinate work.
14.    Ability to focus and maintain concentration for extended periods of time.
15.    Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, Xhosa would be advantageous.
16.    Ability to accept constructive feedback regarding work performance.
17.    A suitable candidate should have the ability to work under high performance pressure with exceptional multitasking skills.
18.    Must have active listening skills and attention to detail.
19.    EMS experience will be highly advantageous.
