Are you ready to take on a crucial role at the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service? We are searching for a dynamic Secretary for Police Service (Director General) to provide strategic leadership and effective management. This role plays a pivotal part in the oversight, policy development, and collaboration within the police service.

Key Requirements for Success:Secretary for Police Service

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Commerce, Social Science, or Law (NQF 7) with a postgraduate qualification (NQF 8) or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years of Senior Management experience, including at least five years at the SMS level in the Public Service.
  • Mandatory completion of pre-entry certificate for Senior Management Service (SMS).
  • Strong grasp of the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Act.
  • Expertise in policy drafting, partnership strategies, and policy implementation.
  • Sound knowledge of constitutional law, including the Police Service Act.
  • Familiarity with government policies, crime-fighting initiatives, and stakeholder management.
  • In-depth understanding of safety, crime prevention structures, and justice and security clusters.
  • Proficiency in PFMA and Public Service Regulatory Framework.
  • Exceptional strategic, leadership, and management skills.
  • Financial acumen and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Integrity and honesty in all dealings.

Your Role in the Civilian Secretariat:

  • Lead strategic management and effective administration of the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service Act.
  • Ensure efficient budget management in compliance with Public Finance Management Act.
  • Drive civilian oversight and monitor the South African Police Service’s performance.
  • Shape and advise on policing policies, providing evidence-based research to the Minister of Police.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagements and public participation in policing and safety matters.
  • Lead legislation review, development, and presentation to Parliament.
  • Implement government-wide crime and violence prevention programs.
  • Advise the Minister on effective policing, safety, and security matters.
  • Foster partnerships and collaborations across sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with international obligations.
  • Oversee budget utilization within police service guidelines.
  • Manage resources and facilitate inter-governmental partnerships.
