Sassa Festive Season Grant : The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has officially released the payment dates for social grants during the festive season, covering both December and January. Here’s what you need to know about when the payments will be made.
Sassa Festive Season Grant December Payment Dates
- Older Persons Grant: 1 December 2023
- Disability Grant: 4 December 2023
- Children’s Grants: 5 December 2023
January Payment Dates
- Older Persons Grant: 3 January 2024
- Disability Grants: 4 January 2024
- Children’s Grants: 5 January 2024

No Double Payments or End-of-Year Bonus
Sassa has clarified that there will be no double payment in December, emphasizing that beneficiaries receive consistent monthly payments without an end-of-year bonus.
Grant Payment Amounts
The most recent update to Sassa grant payment amounts, effective from 1 October 2023, is as follows:
- Old Age Grant (Below 75 years old): R2,090
- Old Age Grant (Above 75 years old): R2,110
- War Veterans Grant: R2,110
- Disability Grant: R2,090
- Foster Child Grant: R1,130
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,090
- Child Support Grant: R510
- Child Support Grant Top-Up: R250 (plus the value of Child Support Grant)
- Grant-in-Aid: R480

Child Support Grant Top-Up: Enhancing Support for Orphaned Children
The Child Support Grant Top-Up is a supplement aimed at improving the lives of orphaned children. It’s not a standalone grant but adds to the existing Child Support Grant.
Continued Support for Individuals Over 18
Despite the general age limit for the Child Support Grant, Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu reveals that over 110,000 individuals over 18 are still benefiting from the grant as long as they remain enrolled in high school.
SRD Grant Payment Dates for December
For recipients of the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, payments will be processed from 18 to 22 December.
Assurance for Sassa Gold Card Holders
Sassa reassures beneficiaries using expired gold cards that their grants will be paid into these cards in December 2023 and subsequent months.
Convenient Ways to Collect Grants
Sassa spokesperson Moabi Pitsi encourages beneficiaries to explore alternative ways to access their funds, including:
- Bank Account: Opt for direct payment into your bank account for anytime access.
- Retail Outlets: Social grants are available at selected retailers, including Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, OK, and Checkers.
- Mobile Cash Pay Points: While less flexible, mobile cash pay points provide an additional option for collecting grants.
