Millions of people will receive social grant payments from SASSA over the next few days. SASSA has taken the opportunity to remind grant beneficiaries that they will be able to use their expired gold cards to collect their grants.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) recently revealed it’s official grant payment schedule for December 2023. The agency is set to distribute permanent social grants to more than 18 million vulnerable living in South Africa.
Sassa Gold Cards Will Not Expire
Sassa has reminded social grant beneficiaries that their Sassa Gold cards will not expire in December or in the months to follow. This means that grant beneficiaries won’t need to renew their expired gold cards.
All grant beneficiaries are reminded that SASSA gold cards will not expire in December and will continue to work for grant payments beyond December 2023.
Earlier this year, Postbank announced that all Sassa Gold cards will continue to function as normal beyond December 2023. Approximately 5.3 million cards were due for replacement by 31 December 2023 with many of these Sassa gold cards already have expired.
While beneficiaries could continue using these cards until the end of the year after Sassa extended the validity of Sassa gold cards, there was uncertainty about what would happen to expired gold cards in 2024.
The announcement from Sassa therefore puts grant beneficiaries’ minds at ease as they no longer have to renew their Sassa Gold cards.
Sassa distributes several permanent grants to beneficiaries monthly. These grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
In December 2023, these grants will be distributed from Friday, 1 December 2023. However, beneficiaries of other permanent grants will have to wait for the new week as Sassa does not pay grants on weekends.
Grant Payment Dates For December
- Older Persons/Pensioners’ Grant: Friday, 1 December 2023
- Disability Grant: Monday, 4 December 2023
- Children’s Grant: Tuesday, 5 December 2023
Where To Collect Your Sassa Grant
Grant beneficiaries can collect their social grants at various retail outlets such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, and Checkers.
SASSA beneficiaries can receive their SASSA payments from selected supermarkets, such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave merchants, Checkers and Shoprite, and obtain this through their SASSA card or by getting the amount directly transferred into their bank account
Alternatively, beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account. This grant payment method allows beneficiaries access to their funds at any time after Sassa completes the payment.
There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed
Mobile cash pay points provide another avenue for grant beneficiaries, though with limited flexibility. However, grants can only be collected during specific hours in the grant payment cycle.
