Job Description:
Join Lactalis at our Bonnievale Plant in the Boiler department where you’ll be responsible for running two boilers concurrently on a continuous basis to provide factory steam. We require candidates with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience as a qualified boiler operator. Experience with semi-automated boiler control systems and basic boiler and stoker maintenance tasks is essential. Fluency in English and computer literacy are also required.
Required Skills:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Certified as a Boiler Operator
- 3 years’ experience as a qualified boiler operator
- Experience with coal-fired and oil-fired boilers
- Good communication and basic computer skills
- Experience in boiler control systems and maintenance tasks
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Willingness to study after hours
- Availability for shifts, long hours, overtime, weekends, and public holidays
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and assertiveness
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Comfortable working in hot, dusty, cold, and wet environments
- Valid Code EB driver’s license advantageous
- Strong personal ethics and willingness to work in extreme conditions
- Comfortable working at heights
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operating, planning, organizing, and controlling steam requirements for all departments
- Ensuring continuous coal feeding to stokers and proper removal of burnt ash
- Maintaining culinary quality of steam at all times
- Conducting safety inspections and tests hourly
- Handling administration tasks in the boiler house
- Managing day-to-day activities related to boiler room standards
- Communicating deviations to steam quality and supply to production departments
- Prioritizing safety procedures and operating standards
