Massmart, a retail giant, has rolled out its game plan for this year’s Black Friday 2023 , featuring the initial deals announced by Builders, Game, and Makro. The company is bringing back month-long Black Friday promotions to its three major stores following extensive consumer research.
Andrew Stein, Massmart’s Chief Customer Officer, highlighted the decision’s customer-driven nature. “Our customers have voiced a preference for extended promotions, allowing them more time to compare prices, shop for necessities, and sidestep the Black Friday rush,” said Stein.
With an emphasis on a stress-free shopping experience, Massmart is ready to provide a blend of in-store presence, online home delivery, and in-store pickup options.

Herman Venter, Massmart’s Chief Merchandise Officer, urged consumers to leverage price comparison tools before finalizing their Black Friday purchases. Venter emphasized the company’s year-long efforts to secure the best prices for all stocked items at participating stores.
The Black Friday deals will be accessible both online and in-store, subject to stock availability. Builders, Game, and Makro will rotate their deals weekly for the upcoming month.

Massmart’s research pinpointed electronics, computers, TVs, audio systems, groceries, and beverages as the most sought-after categories. Notably, there’s a surge in demand for essential items such as tinned food, rice, coffee, sugar, washing powder, and milk.
Katherine Madley, Massmart’s Marketing Vice President, emphasized the extension of Black Friday focus at Game and Makro to offer value on groceries and pantry essentials.
Customers keen on multi-retailer shopping can leverage the OneCart on-demand shipping service. Moreover, online shoppers at Builders, Game, and Makro stores have the convenience of online click-and-collect at Makro, Builders, and 67 Game stores.
Week 1 Deals Highlights: Black Friday 2023
- Builders: Lalela inverter trolley with 60Ah battery at R7,399 (originally R11,999).
- Game: Various discounts on TVs, laptops, smartphones, and tech gadgets.
- Makro: Discounts on an array of tech and general goods, offering bundle deals across multiple products.
