
Introduction
Our client is looking for a Lodge Host to join their team in Louis Trichardt, the Lodge Host will be a key part to their team and must be able to contribute to all parts of their operation to deliver an exceptional service to their guests. A high- end lodge Host takes pride in delivering high standards of breakfast preparation and service, baking a cake for afternoon tea as well as ensuring that the lodge is cleaned with great attention to detail on a daily basis. Additionally, the lodge Host acts as the in-lodge concierge to their weekly clients, assisting with lodge knowledge, restaurant recommendations and a pre-arrival food shop at the request of the client.

As with all our roles the lodge Host is part of a larger hotel operations team and will be required to work in other company properties on quiet weeks yet when in their principal place of work (The new lodge) they will be required to act in line with the general manager in the preparation of the guest’s breakfast and cleaning of the property 6 days per week.

Duties & Responsibilities
Prior hospitality experience which may include housekeeping within a hotel, restaurant or similar setting and prior cooking and baking experience with the ability to confidently prepare the breakfast and afternoon tea menus (as stipulated by the Head Chef) at all times demonstrating excellent customer service and ‘natural’ hosting skills
Able to work independently and under the direction of management
Ability to be flexible and step into other roles to support the wider team
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills – proficient in English
Organised and well-presented with an excellent eye for detail
Physically fit and able to cope with the demands of the role
Desirable Attributes:
Previous experience in a 5 -star hotel or comparable hospitality environment
Full, clean, driving license valid
Previous hotel safaris hosting experience
Conversational
Educated to diploma level
Role Specification:
- Accountabilities & Working Relationships:
- Is assigned to work in one of the company’s locations which may include an extended
Reports to the Operations Manager and lodge manager.
- Six days per week with increased hours on changeover days.
- One full day-off per week – this may not be on the same day as other members of staff.
- Hours variable dependent on the schedule of guests and the tasks requiring completion each day – the role will not always follow a routine pattern of hours and as such will include work on weekends and public holidays.
Customer Service:
- Ensures that all guests of lodge experience flawless customer service throughout their stay in resort.
- Creates and maintains a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the chalet with an acute attention to detail in all aspects of presentation and service.
- Hosts a welcome reception at the lodge on guests’ arrival, serving champagne and providing an introduction to the lodge.
- Proactively offers a variety of in lodge concierge services, including restaurant recommendations and reservations,
Relays any guest feedback, sales or complex concierge requirements to the Operations Manager in a timely manner.
Tailors their service style, delivery and timing to individual guest requirements.
Housekeeping:
- Responsible for excellent standards of cleanliness and the superb presentation of the property and all contents.
- Independently housekeeping staff, the cleaning of communal areas, bedrooms and bathrooms.
- Responsible for all linen and towels which includes planning and coordinating laundering requirements (both in-house and external launderettes) as well as inventory control and quality checks.
- Responsible for impeccable back-of-house (e.g. stores and laundry) organisation and presentation.
- Monitors and manages the suitable stock levels of cleaning products and also champions their correct use to other team members.
- Identifies and addresses issues quickly and pro-actively to ensure the property is maintained in the best possible condition – where necessary escalating these to the Operations Manager or Maintenance Team.
- Reports any matters concerning lodge maintenance/damage/health & safety/food hygiene to the Operations Manager.
- Ensures specialist centralised cleaning equipment is used correctly and returned with all parts accounted for whilst reporting any loss or damage to the lodge Manager.
- On changeover day works as part of the team to ensure the chalet is cleaned and presented to the highest standards and ready to welcome guests – ensures that standard is maintained throughout the guests stay.
Food Preparation/Meal Service:
- Adheres to high levels of food hygiene during all preparation/service tasks.
- Prepares a daily continental breakfast with hot options (as stipulated by the Head Chef), demonstrating a high attention to detail of quality and presentation.
- Bakes a cake for afternoon tea daily and prepares the table and other buffet items ready for guests’ return from the slopes.
- Takes time to understand both food and beverage menus, including the sale of a la carte wine.
- Follows restrictions of licensing within the lodge– alcohol must not be served to minors under 18, even in presence of parents/guardians.
Administration:
- Assists the Operations Manager with start and end of season inventories for the lodge.
- Completes weekly stock takes (inc. beverages, bedroom amenities etc.) regarding guest shopping requirements in preparation for weekly shopping.
- Records the movement of laundry to and from the property with the appropriate procedures and the utmost diligence to maintain inventory and quality levels.
- Keeps accurate records for guest billing – e.g. wine
- Assists with weekly guest diary to contribute to client profiles.
If Requested to Drive – Driving:
Drives with the utmost care and attention at all times – adopts a defensive driving style and always adheres to traffic regulations – reports any incidents, however minor, immediately to the Management Team.
General:
Has a flexible ‘can do’ attitude to their work adapting to the needs of the company and the guests.
