This six-month contract position (REF NO: 2023/293/OCJ) offers a competitive salary of R424 104 – R508 692 per annum, with an additional 37% in lieu of benefits.

Position Details: Law Researcher Position

  • Position: Law Researcher
  • Contract: Six Month Contract
  • Location: Thohoyandou High Court
  • Requirements: Matric and an LLB Degree or equivalent four (4) year Legal qualification recognized by SAQA. Minimum two (2) years’ legal experience post-qualification. A minimum of three (3) years’ legal research experience. Completed articles advantageous. Familiarity with Electronic Information Resources and online retrieval (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Jutastat).
  • Skills Required: Excellent research and analytical skills, report writing, editing, and communication skills. Strong problem-solving and planning abilities. Proficiency in MS Word and project management. Interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure.

Duties: As a Law Researcher, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting Judges in preparing judgments by conducting legal research.
  • Retrieving and analyzing relevant legal materials in both hard and electronic formats.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and Judges to discuss legal points and variations.
  • Compiling comprehensive research memorandums.
  • Ensuring accuracy of judgments, articles, speeches, and conference papers.
  • Drafting speeches, legal articles, and conference papers as required.
  • Monitoring and reporting new developments in law and jurisprudence.
  • Enhancing court efficiency through requested court-related tasks.
