Join the Fire Fighting Forces
The Fire Fighter Learnership Program offers a comprehensive training curriculum designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field of firefighting. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be appointed to a permanent Learner Firefighter position, where you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in your community.
Requirements for Eligibility
To qualify for the Fire Fighter Learnership Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a Grade 12 qualification, with Mathematics and Physical Science preferred.
- Be medically and physically fit, with no fear of confined spaces or heights.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team and handle stressful situations.
- Have no criminal record.
- Successfully complete the required training courses, including Firefighter 1, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, and First Aid Level 3.
- Pass a series of physical fitness tests, including a reach test, a 1.5 km run, push-ups, sit-ups, and a dead weight carry.

Application Process
To apply for the Fire Fighter Learnership Program, please submit the following documents to talentad@wofire.co.za:
- Original National Senior Certificate (NSC) or National Certificate (NSC FET Colleges).
- National Certificate (NSC FET Colleges) (Vocational).
- Be prepared for all weather conditions.
Important Information
- The closing date for applications is not specified, so don’t delay in submitting your application.
- Candidates who pass the physical fitness tests will be required to undergo written assessments and interviews.
- Applicants must consent to fingerprint or identity number checks for criminal records.
- A City medical evaluation and drug test are mandatory.
- Successful candidates will only be appointed to a permanent Learner Firefighter position upon completion of the prescribed training.
