The Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads, and Transport invites interested and suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following positions:

Position: Road Workers (9 Posts)

  • Salary: R155,148 per annum (Level 03)
  • Locations:
    • Xhariep District: Trompsburg, Ref No: FS CSRT 02/08/2024 (5 Posts)

Requirements:

  • Education: NQF level 3 (Grade 10 certificate or equivalent).
  • Knowledge: Job knowledge, communication, interpersonal relations, flexibility, teamwork, accuracy, aptitude with numbers.
  • Skills: Ability to read and write, good eyesight, teamwork, effective communication.

Duties:

  • Support road construction and/or maintenance activities, including:
    • Constructing culverts and side drains.
    • Erecting and maintaining steel guardrails and gabions.
    • Building road earth and layer works.
    • Cleaning and maintaining roads, sidewalks, and resting areas.
    • Surfacing and pothole patching.
    • Installing road fences, pipes, and road signs.
    • Setting up road markings and barricading work areas.
    • Crushing road materials and managing allocated tools.

Requirements:

Duties:

  • Operate and maintain road-building equipment (e.g., grader, bulldozer, front-end loader, tipper truck).
  • Execute daily administrative functions and road maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to prescribed quality standards and provide performance feedback.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress and quality of work on-site.
  • Manage inventory control and supervise resources for road maintenance.
  • Maintain safety regulations and attend meetings with district personnel.
