Mother Accused of Selling Missing Girl Joslin Smith to a Traditional Healer for Ritual Purposes

A government witness has made a shocking revelation, alleging that a mother sold her six-year-old daughter, Joslin Smith, to a traditional healer for R20,000 in exchange for her skin and eyes.

In a chilling testimony at the Western Cape High Court in Saldanha, Lourentia Lombaard—who was initially charged alongside the accused but later turned state witness—claimed that Joslin’s mother, Kelly Smith, confessed to selling her daughter to a sangoma. According to Lombaard, the traditional healer specifically wanted Joslin’s skin and eyes for ritual purposes.

This horrifying claim has surfaced amid the ongoing trial of Smith, her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis, and their friend Stevano van Rhyn, who are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking in connection with Joslin’s disappearance. The young girl was last seen at her home in Middelpos, Saldanha Bay, on January 19, 2024.

The testimony has added a chilling new dimension to a case that has already gripped the nation, leaving the public in shock and demanding justice for Joslin.
