Job Overview

As a Cashier at Dis-Chem’s Ring Road store, you will play a critical role in delivering a world-class shopping experience by managing customer transactions efficiently and accurately. This role requires adherence to company policies and procedures, ensuring accuracy in all financial dealings, and maintaining a high standard of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Service and Sales:
   • Deliver exceptional service by following Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.
   • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with customers to enhance their shopping experience.
   • Address customer complaints and compliments, reporting them to the Frontline Supervisor or store management as appropriate.
2. Transaction Management:
   • Accurately record customer transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system.
   • Process various forms of payments, including cash, bank cards, vouchers, and coupons, ensuring all transactions are completed accurately.
   • Handle and manage the store’s cash flow, ensuring that all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by a supervisor.
3. Compliance and Security:
   • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures to prevent loss and fraud.
   • Ensure that cash is placed in the drop safe according to company SOPs and that all money is kept secure within the till.
   • Maintain confidentiality regarding daily takings and discuss them only with management.
   • Be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or incidents to management.
4. Operational Duties:
   • Manage and process all loyalty cards, including those from accelerator partners like Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks.
   • Ensure that outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for.
   • Exchange merchandise and accept returned goods as authorized.
   • Adhere to the customer turnover hourly rate and be aware of current sales and promotions.
5. Interpersonal Skills:
   • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and social awareness in interactions with customers and colleagues.
   • Be accountable and problem-solve effectively while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.

Minimum Requirements

1. Educational Background:
   • A Grade 12 / Matric qualification is essential.
2. Experience:
   • At least 6 months of experience in cashier or till operations.
3. Skills and Competencies:
   • Proficiency in computer operations, particularly MS Office.
   • Strong numerical skills and a solid command of the English language.
   • Basic customer service skills and the ability to work retail hours.
4. Additional Attributes:
   • A third additional language is advantageous.
   • Must be a South African citizen with a clear credit and criminal record.
   • Reliable transport and/or proximity to the store are preferred.

Special Conditions

• Work Hours: Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, are required.
• Location: Residing in close proximity to the store or having reliable transportation is beneficial.
