About the Western Cape Department of Agriculture: The Western Cape Department of Agriculture provides a wide range of development, research, and support services to the agricultural community in the Western Cape. The agricultural sector in the province contributes to economic growth and job opportunities. This internship program is aimed at providing valuable experience and exposure in agriculture to unemployed youth in rural areas of the Western Cape.
Requirements: To be eligible for the APFYD Matric Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Unemployed South Africans who have written and passed the National Senior Certificate (NSC) in the Western Cape, with mathematics and science.
- Youth between the ages of 18 to 24.
- Applicants must be entering an internship or youth development program in the government for the first time.
Nature of Appointment: Successful applicants will be appointed on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months (one year). Candidates will be placed on farms and with agricultural entities in the specified regions. Matriculants appointed will receive an annual stipend of R60,037.92.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should follow these steps to apply:
- Obtain the application form (new Z83) from any government department.
- Complete the application form.
- Include a copy of the relevant qualification, a certified copy of the green South African bar-coded ID, or a copy of the new South African ID card.
- Include academic results certified by the academic institution.

Notes:
- All applicants must be South African citizens.
- Preference will be given to applicants residing in the specified areas.
- The Department reserves the right to determine the total number of appointed interns based on the budget available.
- No late applications will be considered.
- Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates.
- Certification of all supporting documents will be expected from shortlisted candidates.
- If you do not hear from the Department within three (3) months after the closing date, consider your application to be unsuccessful.
